The Director of Liturgy (DL) is a visionary leader dedicated to fostering a vibrant worship environment rooted in the Catholic tradition and the charism of the Congregation of Holy Cross. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Campus Ministry and serving on the Campus Ministry Leadership Team, the DL shapes the liturgical life of the University by upholding Catholic sacramental and liturgical practices while creating spaces where individuals of all faith traditions feel welcomed and valued.
The DL oversees the Basilica of the Sacred Heart's liturgical and musical offerings while fostering spiritual and liturgical engagement across residence halls and other sacred spaces, including academic building chapels and outdoor places of prayer. Combining a commitment to Catholic worship with an openness to ecumenical and interfaith dialogue, the DL helps the University community encounter the sacred, deepen their faith, and experience God's love in meaningful and transformative ways.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership and Vision (35%)
Explore methods to broaden campus liturgical identity, emphasizing the unique needs of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and each residence hall community.
Ensure alignment of liturgical efforts with the Holy Cross charism and the diverse spiritual needs of the Notre Dame community.
Foster liturgical practices that reflect the global Church and engage underrepresented voices in worship.
Supervision and Team Development (35%)
Supervise liturgical and musical staff, including, but not limited to, the Rector of the Basilica and the Basilica choir directors, while fostering a culture of trust and accountability.
Develop and implement streamlined scheduling, communication, and event planning systems, leveraging technology to support team operations.
Ensure clear and effective communication among Basilica staff, musicians, sacristans, and collaborators to promote a transparent and efficient workflow.
Liturgical Planning (20%)
Oversee the planning and execution of sacramental and liturgical celebrations in the Basilica and campus-wide events, collaborating with Residential Life to plan and enhance residence hall Masses.
Guide and support the team in providing comprehensive training for student ministers, musicians, sacristans, and other collaborators across campus, ensuring they are equipped to serve with confidence, skill, and a deep understanding of their liturgical roles.
Division of Student Affairs Leadership (10%)
Represent the Department of Campus Ministry by attending Divisional Department Leaders' meetings, participating in committees, and leading strategic projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degree in Theology, Liturgical Studies, Pastoral Ministry, or a related field required.
At least five years of experience in liturgical leadership, preferably in a university or parish setting.
Strong organizational, communication, and team-building skills, with a focus on collaboration.
Deep understanding of Catholic theology, liturgical norms, and Holy Cross charism.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience managing diverse teams, with demonstrated success in bridging liturgy and music.
Ability to engage diverse perspectives and foster an inclusive worship environment.
Visionary leadership with the capacity to balance tradition and innovation in liturgy.

Recording of plenary sessions that is intended for broadcast or webcast requires prior arrangement and permission through APAP;
Advance scheduling is required for all filming during exhibit hours;
Advance scouting, without cameras, is required;
All camera crew personnel must wear press badges, and badges must be visible while on the exhibit floor;
All camera crews will be escorted by a representative of the Conference while on the exhibit floor;
A list of filming needs, indicating company name and booth number, must be approved by APAP in advance of any filming;
Permission must be granted by each exhibitor before any filming begins. Camera crews must provide release forms before filming;
If you ?need power, other than battery pack, advance arrangements are required and can be arranged by contacting Leah Frelinghuysen;
You will be responsible for any costs related to electrical needs;
Interviews for exhibitors in the EXPO Hall should be scheduled up to one week before the conference starts (January 10, 2020) and advance scheduling is required for all filming during exhibit hours
