POSITION SUMMARY: The Post Baccalaureate Fellow for Community Engagement works jointly with the Draper Center's Assistant Director of Community Engagement and Pomona College faculty and community leaders to maintain current Community Engagement programs. The Fellow supports robust and ongoing Draper Center Community Engagement program, including the Pomona College Community Engagement Center, Alternative Spring Break, Health Bridges, Music Mentors, Rooftop Garden, and/or a program of the Fellow's choice. In collaboration with other staff this position is responsible for the direction and oversight of one or more student employees and all the activities and services provided by them in the Draper Center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting directly to the Assistant Director for Community Engagement, the Post-Baccalaureate Fellow for Community Engagement performs the following essential duties and responsibilities:
Support the Pomona College Community Engagement Center (PCCEC):
Design, implement, and facilitate innovative programs and activities for youth, college and/or community audiences
Plan, implement and staff monthly 2nd Saturday events
Maintain email accounts, calendars, web pages
Maintain a vibrant social media presence
Maintain cleanliness and order of the space
Order and replenish supplies as needed
Engage in outreach efforts to promote various programs and services
Liaison between Draper Center and local community organizations:
Build and maintain directory of current and former community partnerships
Meet with and assist Pomona College faculty connecting them with appropriate community engagement opportunities that support classroom learning objectives
Support the Draper Center Alternative Spring Break Program (Alternabreak):
Support the Draper Orientation Adventure (OA) experience for new students.
Weekly check-ins with Draper Center Community Engagement Coordinators
Oversee K-12 campus visits not associated with Draper Center Community Engagement programs. This includes, but is not limited to:
Black Youth Conference
Annual AVID Conference
Targeted visits from K-12 schools and non-profit groups
Assist in Monthly Reports, data gathering and surveys
Facilitating leadership workshops for Draper Coordinators
Volunteer recruitment for PCCEC and Community Engagement activities and programs
Meet with students interested in creating Community Engagement programs
Support data collection and record keeping for all Community Engagement programming
Coordinate social media regarding Draper Center activities
Drive the College's van to shuttle students to volunteer/program sites on occasion
Perform some clerical tasks needed for the execution of various programs.
Coordinate special projects/tasks and provide assistance as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in education, communications, marketing, journalism, business administration, a liberal arts field, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A recent Pomona College alumnus or PAYS alumnus who has graduated within 3 years of their application is preferred. A valid driver's license is required or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events. A demonstrated commitment to the Draper Center's mission, community engagement and/or social justice issues with some understanding of the theory and practice of community-based programs and projects are required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS: The Post-Baccalaureate Fellow for Community Engagement must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using other skills and abilities not listed below.
Deploy professional skills in community engagement, service learning and social justice, in collaboration with colleagues, to best promote the College's strategic interests.
Demonstrated effectiveness and clarity of verbal and written communication with excellent interpersonal communication and phone manners. Must handle all activities and highly confidential information with patience, discretion, tact, and a keen eye for detail while working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
Able to operate computers with basic Microsoft Office software (such as Word, Excel, Outlook), basic graphic design software (Canva, Adobe Illustrator), associated professional software (such as Adobe PhotoShop, digital photography, Internet research, menu-driven databases) and social media networking. Demonstrated understanding of the use of technology to achieve annual goals and maintain confidentiality.
Able to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as a collaborative member of the College in support of the College's strategic vision and the division's annual goals with a high standard of integrity and ethics.
Must understand and communicate the mission and history of the College's liberal arts environment.
Must have exceptional organizational and time management skills to complete work with accuracy and attention to detail.
Able to safely operate a College minivan to transport students off campus occasionally.
ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: This is a temporary, full-time, benefit-eligible, non-exempt position. The salary for this role is between $24.00 - $25.00 per hour, with a competitive benefits package. The specific factors that the organization will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include education, training, prior experience, and performance in prior role. All staff positions are ineligible for visa or permanent resident card sponsorship. As a California employer, Pomona College requires all employees to be residents of California.
REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday â“ Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.

Recording of plenary sessions that is intended for broadcast or webcast requires prior arrangement and permission through APAP;
Advance scheduling is required for all filming during exhibit hours;
Advance scouting, without cameras, is required;
All camera crew personnel must wear press badges, and badges must be visible while on the exhibit floor;
All camera crews will be escorted by a representative of the Conference while on the exhibit floor;
A list of filming needs, indicating company name and booth number, must be approved by APAP in advance of any filming;
Permission must be granted by each exhibitor before any filming begins. Camera crews must provide release forms before filming;
If you ?need power, other than battery pack, advance arrangements are required and can be arranged by contacting Leah Frelinghuysen;
You will be responsible for any costs related to electrical needs;
Interviews for exhibitors in the EXPO Hall should be scheduled up to one week before the conference starts (January 10, 2020) and advance scheduling is required for all filming during exhibit hours
