The Department of Middle and High School Education (MHSE) invites applications for an assistant professor in English Education.
MHSE seeks an individual whose expertise includes teaching, research, and coordination duties in area(s) noted below. The successful candidate also shares responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as assigned.
Major Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Middle and High School Education (MHSE), School of Education. The teaching load is 18 hours (6 courses) for each contract year. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility issues in education, advise and work with students to support their success, observe practicum and student teachers, work in professional development schools and,teach evening and/or weekend classes.The successful candidate will be expected to conduct service to the department, school, and college. In addition, the successful candidate will also be expected to participate in departmental level duties, including program coordination and program accreditation.Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship and professional development support.

MHSE Profile:
The Department of Middle and High School Education has nationally recognized undergraduate and graduate programs that prepare candidates to earn New York State teacher licenses to teach in grades 5-12 classrooms and other educational settings, including those serving bilingual learners. Undergraduate and graduate teacher education program sequences have been designed for students wanting certification in the subject areas of English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Arts, Music, and Foreign Languages. Faculty in the Department are committed to the Lehman Urban Transformative Education framework adopted by Lehman???s School of Education. Our goal is to prepare innovative and creative educators who inspire, influence and value others. We believe in the rich contribution of each of our educational partners in shaping our transformative practice.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. or Ed.D. degree in area(s) of expertise, or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, and interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement. Experience teaching diverse learners and demonstrated commitmentto working effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a multicultural/multiethnic urban campus environment with a substantial population of students who are among the first-generation.
Preferred Qualification
Ph.D. or Ed.D. degree in education or a related field;
?? Expertise in secondary English pedagogy;
?? Demonstrated commitment to social justice, multi-modal learning, anti-racist pedagogies, multilingualism, and culturally and linguistically responsive and sustaining pedagogy;
?? Ability to collaborate in recruiting students for undergraduate and graduate programs;
?? Engage in research and scholarly writing.
?? Seek external funding for research and program improvements.
?? Demonstrated ability to effectively teach adults in college level education programs in various modalities including in person, hybrid, synchronous and asynchronous modalities;
?? Demonstrated knowledge of secondary learning standards and curriculum;
?? Experience integrating issues of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in teaching, scholarship, and service;
?? Experience teaching in secondary classrooms, educational settings and communities with culturally diverse populations including English language learners;
?? Serve as the program coordinator for the graduate and undergraduate programs;
?? Evidence of excellent written, oral, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
COMPENSATION
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, based upon rank, within the following ranges:
Assistant Professor: $82,928 - $93,134

Recording of plenary sessions that is intended for broadcast or webcast requires prior arrangement and permission through APAP;
Advance scheduling is required for all filming during exhibit hours;
Advance scouting, without cameras, is required;
All camera crew personnel must wear press badges, and badges must be visible while on the exhibit floor;
All camera crews will be escorted by a representative of the Conference while on the exhibit floor;
A list of filming needs, indicating company name and booth number, must be approved by APAP in advance of any filming;
Permission must be granted by each exhibitor before any filming begins. Camera crews must provide release forms before filming;
If you ?need power, other than battery pack, advance arrangements are required and can be arranged by contacting Leah Frelinghuysen;
You will be responsible for any costs related to electrical needs;
Interviews for exhibitors in the EXPO Hall should be scheduled up to one week before the conference starts (January 10, 2020) and advance scheduling is required for all filming during exhibit hours
