SUMMARY
Signature seeks a dynamic and outgoing staff member to join our marketing team as a grassroots and community engagement manager. The successful candidate will love digging deep into research as much as they love meeting and interacting with new people. Being a creative, broadminded, flexible thinker as well as having tenacity and excellent follow-through is required to locate and connect new audiences to Signature and create lasting and meaningful relationships. This position is an integral part of the Marketing team, will report to the Director of Marketing and work closely with the Box Office staff and members of the Artistic, Education and Development departments. While this is a primarily in-person position, with on-site required work, some telework will be possible.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain and grow relationships with current clients and community partners.
Create and execute strategies to engage new communities with Signature’s artistic and educational programs.
Research possible new community partners, make connections and develop long-lasting relationships. This includes in-person groups, online groups and meet ups, college/universities, community groups, corporate partners, etc. Some of this work will be done in conjunction with Education, Development and Artistic staff members also responsible for community outreach.
Research, book and run festivals and external events and performances (eg: Pride festival, community performance opportunities, etc.), including strategy and execution of successful off-site events in alignment with overall marketing strategies and goals. Work with festival organizers to secure space, ensure the festival is staffed, prepare any materials needed, communicate details of festival to staff who are working at it. Personally work shifts at festivals to assess their effectiveness in meeting Signature’s goals.
Work with Signature staff and marketing agencies on creating lists for outreach locations for marketing campaigns.
Work with the Box Office on group sales work, helping with special events, bringing in new group clients and stewardship of current clients, including in-person meetings.
Create, manage and ensure the successful completion of marketing partnerships with other organizations, which can include everything from simple promotional partnerships to live events.
Attend events on behalf of Signature, including speaking to potential partners and customers about Signature’s programs.
Use Tessitura to create special grass roots marketing price offers and track their effectiveness.
Attend marketing meetings and contribute ideas for various campaigns.
Attend meetings with other departments as needed.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Marketing.
QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience with marketing/outreach. Great at deep research and following leads.
License and access to transportation to meet with prospective audiences and deliver posters, postcards, etc. in the DMV area (mileage is reimbursed).
Some knowledge of theater and/or performing arts.
Friendly, authoritative, tenacious, confident, and flexible.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including in person, on the phone, over Zoom/Teams or in writing.
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and ticketing systems.
Tessitura experience is great, but not required. Training will be provided.
Some evening and weekend work required.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The Marketing Manager, Grassroots and Community Engagement is a mid-level position with a salary in the high 40s-low 50s (dependent on experience) and offers an excellent package of benefits, including medical, dental, disability and life insurance; paid vacation, sick and parental leave; as well as complimentary and discount tickets. This is a full-time, salaried exempt position with 40 hours per week, including some weekends and evenings. Signature Theatre is also a qualifying employer for the Public Student Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).
LOCATION This job is predominantly an on-site position with the possibility of occasional telework, based at Signature Theatre’s facilities in Arlington, VA.

Recording of plenary sessions that is intended for broadcast or webcast requires prior arrangement and permission through APAP;
Advance scheduling is required for all filming during exhibit hours;
Advance scouting, without cameras, is required;
All camera crew personnel must wear press badges, and badges must be visible while on the exhibit floor;
All camera crews will be escorted by a representative of the Conference while on the exhibit floor;
A list of filming needs, indicating company name and booth number, must be approved by APAP in advance of any filming;
Permission must be granted by each exhibitor before any filming begins. Camera crews must provide release forms before filming;
If you ?need power, other than battery pack, advance arrangements are required and can be arranged by contacting Leah Frelinghuysen;
You will be responsible for any costs related to electrical needs;
Interviews for exhibitors in the EXPO Hall should be scheduled up to one week before the conference starts (January 10, 2020) and advance scheduling is required for all filming during exhibit hours
