The Music Theater Division at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music invites applications for a full-time music theater faculty position in dance. We are looking for a dynamic colleague to join our exciting, experienced team in launching this new program, beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year.
Responsibilities:
Successful candidates will:
teach music theater majors in multiple levels of dance technique, which could include classes in ballet, Broadway jazz, contemporary, commercial dance, tap, partnering, and choreography
teach music theater dance courses for non-majors, as space allows.
serve on departmental, conservatory, and institution-wide committees as necessary.
choreograph at least one Oberlin Music Theater production per year.
participate actively in recruiting and auditioning.
collaborate on the New York Senior Showcase each year.
maintain an active professional profile by collaborating with departmental colleagues and the broader professional community, with the support of Oberlin's generous leave policy, travel grants, and other forms of institutional funding.
We envision appointing at the Assistant Professor rank in either a tenure-track or clinical capacity.
Required qualifications:
The search committee is especially enthusiastic to consider candidates who:
have extensive experience in choreography and teaching music theater,
and who demonstrate a strong commitment to overall physical health and wellness. (We also welcome candidates with directing experience, although this is not required.
holds an MFA or have commensurate professional experience
maintain a strong professional network with summer stock, regional, touring, Off-Broadway, and Broadway theater and engage in sustained professional creative work.

Recording of plenary sessions that is intended for broadcast or webcast requires prior arrangement and permission through APAP;
Advance scheduling is required for all filming during exhibit hours;
Advance scouting, without cameras, is required;
All camera crew personnel must wear press badges, and badges must be visible while on the exhibit floor;
All camera crews will be escorted by a representative of the Conference while on the exhibit floor;
A list of filming needs, indicating company name and booth number, must be approved by APAP in advance of any filming;
Permission must be granted by each exhibitor before any filming begins. Camera crews must provide release forms before filming;
If you ?need power, other than battery pack, advance arrangements are required and can be arranged by contacting Leah Frelinghuysen;
You will be responsible for any costs related to electrical needs;
Interviews for exhibitors in the EXPO Hall should be scheduled up to one week before the conference starts (January 10, 2020) and advance scheduling is required for all filming during exhibit hours
