Lake Tahoe Prep is seeking a talented individual who is trained to teach music. The responsibilities of the Music Teacher are both instrumental and vocal music, in addition to including elements of music history, theory and composition, teaching students how to use our recording studio, and hosting visiting professional artists. The teacher will help students showcase their abilities through a variety of performances including coffeehouses, recitals, community performances, and graduation performance. This position offers a wonderful opportunity to inspire enthusiasm for the arts, and help students find the joy in music and to develop confidence in themselves so that they may find their voice – both in and out of the classroom. Candidates should have demonstrated success teaching to a range of learners and at least two years’ prior teaching experience. Qualifications for application include at least a B.A. in Music (master’s level degree preferred), proficiency in piano, experience teaching both instrumental and vocal music, and ensemble conducting experience. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for music, effective classroom management skills with a knowledge of how to assess and grade students’ progress, the ability to develop educational programming, and a willingness to work with other teachers across disciplines. All teachers are responsible for implementing the current curriculum, which is in line with the California state standards. Successful candidates will have experience with the thoughtful integration of technology in the classroom. They are also responsible for communicating with Lake Tahoe Prep administration, chaperoning daily afternoon activities, serving as a student advisor, leading a club, proctoring one study hall a week, and working one weekend per month.
