The Washington and Lee University Department of Music invites applications for a three-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Music/Administrator of Music Operations position with the possibility of renewal, beginning July 1, 2024. This position carries a 6-course teaching load distributed over Fall and Winter terms (12 weeks each), and the university’s signature 4-week Spring term. Half of this person’s load will consist of teaching Aural Skills and Introduction to Music. The other half will consist of administrative responsibilities including assisting the Department Head with budget planning, capital budget requests, submitting course offerings and catalog updates, overseeing departmental public relations and recruiting efforts, coordinating departmental assessment activities, and the planning of the departmental events calendar. Additionally, this person may assist with ensemble tour logistics as needed.

While a doctorate in music is preferred, holders of a master’s degree in music will be considered. A demonstrable record of teaching excellence and a commitment to providing a high-quality music education in a liberal arts context are essential.
