Position Summary:
The School of Arts & Communication (ACO) at Southern Oregon University provides educational and practical experience in all areas of the arts including Communication (Communication, Media Innovation, and Digital Cinema), Creative Arts (Art, Art History, EMDA, and Creative Writing), Music, and Theatre. The Oregon Center for the Arts (OCA), a component to the ACO, produces and presents the work of professional and student artists from the university and throughout the world through performances, exhibition, festivals, concerts, special events, and partnerships with arts originations at the university and in the community. The Center encourages artistic development, contextual understanding, and explorations of creative expression.
The Theatre Department provides educational and practical experience in all areas of Theatre including acting, directing, Theatre business management, dramatic literature, and costume, makeup, scenic, sound, and lighting design. Faculty and classified support staff service approximately 200 Theatre majors and pre-majors and in addition to three major productions each year, SOU's mission as a regional center of excellence in undergraduate study of the fine and performing arts is enhanced by the activities and reputation of the Theatre Program.
At the graduate level, the Master of Theatre Studies degree is a unique and vibrant component of the Department It is designed for high school and community college Theatre teachers wishing to broaden and enhance their technical Theatre and design skills. This is a distance learning and resident program in operation year round. Participants are on campus two to three weeks in the summer for three summers. During the academic year, students can complete elective graduate-level courses online.
