The Coordinator of Fraternity and Sorority Life is responsible for advising three of our Greek-letter student governing councils, chapter leaders, and members. Specifically, the coordinator will advise the National Pan-Hellenic Conference (NPHC), the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC), and the Independent Greek Council (IGC); attend their bi-weekly council meetings, executive board meetings, and sub-committee meetings; attend their events; advise the membership recruitment/intake process; serve as the University liaison with chapter presidents and officers; meet with national representatives of chapters; and work with and assist alumnae in the improvement of chapters.
In addition, the coordinator will be responsible for portions of office operations which include: working to advance the Towson University Chapter Assessment Program, assisting with chapter compliance with university standards, teaching leadership seminars, risk management workshops such as hazing prevention, alcohol education, and diversity and social justice programming, plan, develop, coordinate, and execute large-scale programming efforts, including Homecoming, Greek Week, and the debuts, Dance the Madness, Block Shows, and Step Shows; serve on Divisional Committees; and assist in other advising duties as needed.
Responsibilities and Duties
Student and Organizational Development:
- Advise the NPHC, MGC, and the IGC student governing bodies by meeting one-on-one with leaders and attending meetings, executive board meetings, and sub-committee meetings.
- Advise the presidents/leaders of the respective chapters in the NPHC, MGC, and IGC on campus to provide guidance and assess compliance with university standards.
- Oversee the Membership Intake Process.
- Assist in managing and enforcing compliance with the Chapter Assessment Program.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and facilitating leadership training opportunities for student leaders such as the Greek Leadership Academy, Social Justice Workshop Series, Officer training, etc.
Social Programming:
- Coordinate social programming efforts, including Homecoming, Greek Week, Debuts, Dance the Madness, Late Night Parties, Step Shows, Stroll Showcases, Lunch in Letters, etc.
- Coordinate Council Programming Chairs/Vice Presidents to form community programming committees.
- Provide support for division-wide activities and programs such as Welcome to TU, Homecoming, and Family Weekend.
- Provide support for risk management programs and preventative education such as Training for Intervention Procedures (TIPS) and Hazing Prevention Week.
Justice & Community:
- Coordinate the campus blood drives in partnership with the American Red Cross.
- Design and facilitate the curriculum for the social justice workshop series for chapter diversity and inclusion officers.
Administration and Support:
- Responsible for all aspects of supervising one graduate assistant, which includes the hiring process in coordination with the Graduate Student Office.
- Assist the Director in short and long-term goal planning that advances the department's vision and mission related to the strategic plan for the University and the Division of Student Affairs.
- Assist in marketing efforts for Fraternity and Sorority Life, including developing and updating written and online materials.
- Assist in administrative duties such as grade reports, GPA checks, roster collection and maintenance, and the distribution and collection of essential forms.
- Serve on various University and Student Affairs committees.
Internal and External Relations:
- Develop and maintain collaborative and reciprocal relationships with local chapter advisory boards, national headquarters staff, and other departments at Towson University.
- Collaborate and communicate with alumni groups and graduate chapters.
- Perform other duties as requested by the office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Assistant Vice President of Campus Life, or the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life.
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
- Bachelor's degree
- Two years of experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student population and campus community.
- Knowledge of fraternal culture and community at a university/college.
- Experience working with culturally based fraternal organizations.
- Ability to oversee projects and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience developing and implementing large-scale programs.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Preferred:
- Master's degree
Salary and Benefits
