Overview
The purpose of the Assistant/Associate Professor of Music Choral/Vocal is to enhance the Division of Music by leading the choral program and maintaining and raising the level of excellence established within the existing choral program, recruit talented students to pursue a degree within the Division of Music, and promote the work and mission of Oklahoma Baptist University.
Job Role and Responsibility
Essential Functions
Conduct 2 choirs
Provide private vocal lessons and/or vocal classes to students pursuing a degree in music, those pursuing a minor in music, as well as students taking lessons or classes in elective or secondary performance area.
Teach undergraduate courses related to music content specialty.
Recruit students to study music and to pursue of the degrees offered by the Division of Music
Remain active as a conductor and/or performer in professional stage and church settings.
Other Duties
Maintain membership and participate in professional.
Advise undergraduate.
Contribute to administrative tasks, including service to departmental and university.
Travel occasionally to recruit prospective students and to accompany current students to performance opportunities such as but not limited to NATS, OkMEA, TMEA, TMTA, and OMTA.
Collaborate with colleagues and students within and beyond the Division of Music to create and promote excellent musical and academic experiences.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstration of strong teaching and conducting skills in Choral Conducting and Voice.
Proven teaching abilities at the undergraduate level in Choral Conducting and Voice.
Knowledge of current pedagogical approaches in Choral Conducting and Voice.
Keyboard abilities appropriate to Choral Conducting and Voice.
Experience with recruitment and retention.
Interpersonal skills for regular interaction and collaboration with prospective and current students as well as faculty, staff, administration, supporters, and guests of the university.
Required
Completed Master’s degree plus significant progress toward
Teaching experience in Choral Conducting and
Basic computer skills, including word processing and Learning Management
Ability to work some evenings and
Ability to travel, occasionally overnight, for recruitment purposes and to attend professional conferences.
Commitment to the vision and mission of Oklahoma Baptist
Must be an active member of a local evangelical
Preferred
Doctorate in Music Arts in Conducting and/or Voice, or a similar
Successful teaching as a music faculty member at an accredited undergraduate institution and significant experience as a conductor/performer.
Successful teaching or professional work in music technology including but not limited to sound board operation, microphones, music production, and recording.
