The Department of Music seeks candidates for a part-time, semester-long, potentially renewable Lecturer position to participate in our studio lesson program and in Early Music Princeton. The position is expected to begin September 1, 2023. Responsibilities include teaching private lessons to Princeton University students, meeting prospective students, and writing letters of recommendation. Additional responsibilities include leading the Early Music Princeton (EMP) Viola Consort. In this capacity, the selected candidate will lead weekly coaching sessions for the consort and EMP chamber music ensembles, will need to play in the group for rehearsals/performances as needed, and will provide administrative support to EMP, such as selecting repertoire for the Viola Consort, scheduling rehearsals, and meeting regularly with the Director of EMP. Other responsibilities of this position may include programming for Richardson Chamber Players; presenting masterclasses, coaching student soloists and ensembles, and adjudication of juries/hearings and soloist competitions. Candidates may have the opportunity to teach music courses subject to Departmental need and approval by the Dean of the Faculty. The instructor in this position performs their own administrative and clerical support functions. Appointment duty time will vary depending on student enrollment in the studio lessons program and the Early Music Princeton Viol Consort in a given term. Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in music or equivalent experience. Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree with a major emphasis and demonstrated experience in Viola da gamba/baroque cello and historical performance. Successful candidates should also demonstrate knowledge and ability in ensemble direction, studio teaching, and repertoire. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a college or university setting, experience coaching soloists and ensembles, and teaching of master classes.
