This position provides an opportunity to collaborate with a thriving contemporary art center in the mountains of Western North Carolina. The BAC Lead Technician works closely with the Technical Director/Production Manager in supporting the technical needs for Bardo Arts Center, including all backstage operations for the BAC Performance Hall, audio and video technical needs for the WCU Fine Art Museum, and support other departments as needed. Along with other full-time staff of Bardo Arts Center, this position is involved in the planning process for BAC programs and series, as well as in the implementation of those programs. This is a 12-month, time -limited grant-funded position with the option to renew pending available funds.
DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises, operates, and troubleshoots, audio, video, information technology for event production
Operates, maintains, and safeguards the technical assets of the performance hall, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment, and the use and maintenance of stage facilities
Designs, sets up, maintains, and operates audio and video for theatre, dance, music, and other productions and projects
Assists guest designers and artists with technical matters
Supervises and assists with set and stage management
Leads the installation and maintenance of a moderate A/V streaming set-up for classes and simple events
Assists in recruiting, training and assignment of volunteer or paid technical staff for individual shows
Orients facility users and visiting productions to safety, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations and facilitates the use of the technical facilities by the resident company and others engaged by or using the facility
Supervises a team of student technical staff to assist in the operation of the performance hall
Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment
Arranges for the repair and replacement of equipment within budgetary constraints
Performs preventive maintenance on equipment
Attends technical week rehearsals, to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of the mounting productions
Follows the Performance Hall’s Readiness Plan for disasters and emergencies
