The Middle, Intermediate, and Upper School Chorus Teacher is a part-time 40% position reporting to the Heads of the Middle, Intermediate, and Upper Schools. This role works closely with the chorus teachers in each division of the music program. The assistant teacher partners to create and direct several performances throughout the school year and assists with assemblies and class plays as needed. Class times are on a rotating schedule, and the person in this role must be available for all class meetings and evening events.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare lesson plans following curriculum guidelines and requirements.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities by integrating competencies and goals into the lesson plans.
Teach the assigned curriculum using different instructional resources.
Maintain attendance records.
Manage student behavior in the classroom and maintain a positive educational environment for all students.
Evaluate students’ progress in conjunction with the lead chorus teacher.
Communicate with parents to discuss student progress and areas of growth in conjunction with the lead chorus teacher.
Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and other teacher training workshops.
Ensure the social, emotional, and academic growth of students.
Communicate and collaborate with classroom teachers and advisors.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills and Knowledge:
Understanding of Music theory
Ability to sight-read
Solid piano skills (preferred but not required)
Advanced organization and communication skills
Understanding of students’ educational and emotional needs at a wide range of developmental stages
Background in vocal pedagogy and private voice instruction
Familiarity with choral repertoire (the choral “canon” as well as diverse composers and texts).
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in music or music education required.
A minimum of two years’ experience teaching chorus from beginner to advanced level.
