Perform a variety of tasks related to the safe and efficient operation of the department's lighting and sound technology areas. Supervise and manage shop areas with responsibilities including but not limited to: supervision and training of student crew heads and their crew members; ordering, repairing and maintaining equipment and supplies; input into the evaluation and assessment of student crew heads. This position may serve in a variety of production capacities given the needs of the production season. This position will teach courses in technical theatre.
Essential Job Duties:
Serve as lighting and sound supervisor in collaboration with faculty lighting and sound designers and department chair.
Train, supervise and mentor student crew heads in the lighting and sound technology areas.
Train and supervise student shop assistants in the lighting and sound technology areas.
Supervise student crews in the lighting and sound technology areas.
Teach one or more courses per year in Theatre Technology.
Maintain lighting, sound and video shops, equipment, and theatre spaces.
Maintain lighting and sound shop and production budgets and order lighting and sound supplies and equipment.
Supervise the efficient and safe installation, operation, and dismantling of lighting and sound equipment and systems during load-in, technical and dress rehearsals, previews, performance, and strikes of departmental productions.
Serve as video coordinator when such technology is required for production.
Assist in maintaining safety in all areas.
Assist with the ongoing improvements and annual maintenance for the theatrical facility, shops and equipment.
Serve in a variety of production capacities given the needs of the production season.
Participate in the regular evaluation of Theatre Production and Design majors.
Participate in regular production meetings and Center, Theatre Production and Management, and Theatre Production and Design area meetings.
Serve as liaison to the department of Digital Instruction and Informational Services for department computing and maintenance of CAD lab.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
BA or BFA degree in Theatre Technology or the equivalent professional experience and a minimum of two years experience in a combination of lighting and sound technology is required. Video production, supervisory experience, strong organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks, work under deadlines and prioritize tasks, and previous experience working with a diverse student population in a mentoring role is preferred.
Hiring Range: Low to Mid $50's commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Work Environment:
Working with students in and with theatre equipment utilizing tools such as ladders, lighting and sound equipment, personnel lifts and working around electricity.
