The Mannes School of Music, a part of The College of Performing Arts at The New School is seeking a highly qualified Performance and Ensemble Manager to oversee small ensemble and chamber music activities at Mannes. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Mannes and working with academic leadership, faculty, and production staff, the Performance and Ensemble Manager is responsible for small ensemble programs and performance classes at Mannes. The manager designs, builds, and oversees chamber music, small ensemble, and other performance programs and activities at Mannes as well as across The College of Performing Arts. In addition, the manager oversees all instrumental classes (brass class, winds class, violin class, etc.), juries, masterclasses, and other activities as assigned.Â

The Performance and Ensemble Manager will create structures that allow students from across the college to collaborate inside and outside of the curriculum. The Manager will work with staff and faculty at Mannes and Jazz to create new opportunities for students and to champion the College of Performing Artsâ™ (CoPA) interdisciplinary vision.Â

RESPONSIBILITIES
Formation and oversight of student small ensembles
Oversee the placement of Mannes students into small ensemble experiences and monitor the progress of student ensembles by working closely with students and faculty.Â
Assign faculty to coach small ensembles, ensuring that assignments are in compliance with part-time faculty collective bargaining agreements.
Support students and faculty in the selection of repertoire for small ensembles.
Manage the purchase and distribution of music rentals and purchases.
In partnership with CoPAâ™s production department, design, organize, and produce small ensemble performance opportunities for students across CoPA each semester.Â
Academic Affairs
Oversee performance classes at Mannes including brass class, winds class, violin class, et ceteraÂ
Coordinate annual juries at Mannes.
Resident Ensembles
Supports activities for CoPAâ™s artists and ensembles in residence.
Manage the Cuker and Stern Graduate String Quartet program, including recruitment, selection, programming, mentorship, and direct administrative support for the Graduate String Quartet.
Other
Participate in cross-functional working groups to support the cross-disciplinary goals of Mannes and The College of Performing Arts.
Participate in entrance and placement audition processes. Coordinate interview process for all applicants, participate in admissions and scholarship committees across CoPA.
Oversight of The George and Elizabeth Gregory Concerto Competition.
Remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the supervisor. Â

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelorâ™s Degree in music, the performing arts, arts administration, or equivalent professional experience.
Three years of experience in arts, nonprofit, and/or higher education administration.
Knowledge of small ensemble literature, with a particular emphasis on contemporary music, experimental music, and music by composers from underrepresented groups.
Strong analytical skills and the proven ability to develop creative approaches to complex financial, planning, and resource allocation issues.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to present complex information to various audiences.
Experienced or able to learn and develop fluency in The New Schoolâ™s suite of data systems including WorkDay, Tableau, Banner, and 25Live.Â
Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Inclusion, Social Justice, and the transformative power of the arts and education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Advanced degree in music, the performing arts, arts administration, or equivalent professional experience
Prior experience working with a unionized part-time faculty
Experience managing, supporting, or mentoring established and/or emerging artists.
WORK MODE
Fixed Split Hybrid (minimum three days/week onsite with up to five days/week onsite as assigned or necessary for ensemble operations)
Some nights and weekends are required.Â
SALARY
$58,500-$63,500 annually
