Job Description Summary | The Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts, as part of the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) Department at Michigan Technological University, is seeking experienced applicants for the full-time position of Production Manager. Under the general direction of the Rozsa Director, the Production Manager oversees all production aspects of venue operations and events, including touring productions, facility rental events, visual art events, and VPA student and community productions. Working as part of a creative and dynamic team with the Rozsa Center's Director, Marketing Manager, faculty, and staff of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, the Production Manager is responsible for the technical maintenance and production coordination of the venue's 1,067-seat proscenium theatre, a 200-seat black box theatre, two adjoining art gallery spaces, and facility lobby spaces. This position also oversees VPA events that take place at a variety of non-traditional performance locations off campus. Annually, the Rozsa hosts 150-200 community, academic, and touring production events. The Production Manager is responsible for managing workloads and supervising two Assistant Production Manager staff members and 30-40 student production crew members. As a key member of venue leadership, the Production Manager will champion the sustainable management of workflows, professional relationships, and organizational culture in a way that supports the Rozsa's core values: Responsibility, Accessibility, Dignity, and Joy. Ideal candidates will have excellent communication skills and experience in production staff and crew management. The Production Manager will have an active role in the Rozsa Center's establishment and achievement of strategic goals and special projects contributing to the impact the Rozsa Center has on campus, community, and throughout the region. | Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned) | 1. Work to ensure the overall vision and mission of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts, and Michigan Technological University. 2. Plan, direct, and when needed, execute technical production and support for Rozsa, VPA, and rental events. 3. Ensure effective sound, lighting, staging, video streaming, and other technical elements of theater, music, dance, circus and other performing arts events. 4. Hire, train, and supervise technical support personnel. 5. Collaborate effectively with Rozsa and VPA faculty and staff to meet the technical production needs for theater productions, music concerts, and installation/de-installation of gallery shows. 6. Interpret, negotiate, and implement touring company technical riders. 7. Collaborate with the Rozsa's Audience Management staff on the implementation of rental events including University functions, student-led productions, and community events. 8. Apply fiscal responsibility to develop and adhere to departmental and operational budgets. 9. Work closely with VPA/Rozsa faculty and staff to formulate and recommend policies and procedures for governing the production and technical operations at VPA/Rozsa 10. Promote safety and skill development of personnel through training and evaluation 11. Develop, recommend, and implement detailed maintenance and capital improvement plans for building systems and for technical operations 12. Work closely with various campus departments and the VPA/Rozsa faculty and staff on the development and implementation of technology infrastructure. 13. Assist with general facilities management, communicating work orders and assisting with timing of facilities work to meet event needs. 14. Attend departmental and staff meetings. 15. Maintain clear records for expenditures and calendaring. 16. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise, schedule and ensure effective on-boarding and continuous training of the Rozsa Production staff and student crew. | Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements) | • Bachelor's degree in Technical Theater or other applicable discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. • Valid driver's license | Required Experience (minimum requirements) | • At least 3 years of professional experience working in technical theater or event production | Desirable Education and/or Experience | - Advanced Degree in Technical Theater or applicable discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Required Technical Skills: • Familiarity with so_und design and production; ability to read and execute a sound plot. • Familiarity with lighting design and production, ability to read and execute a light plot • Familiarity with theatrical rigging. • Familiarity with running video and executing live stream events • Demonstrated ability to train and run a production crew. • Ability to coordinate and execute the load-in/load-out of a typical road show. • Demonstrated capability to maintain a safe working environment including knowledge and training applicable to theatre. • Experience with or interest in learning to install and de-install visual arts gallery shows. | Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities | • Advanced light design skills. • Experience working as a master electrician. • Knowledge of theatrical automation. • Knowledge of intelligent lighting. • Familiarity with LEAN, Six Sigma, or other quality improvement processes. • Teaching experience. | Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills | | Work Environment and/or Physical Demands | - The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
