Job Description The Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance seeks a part-time Technical Director/Facilities Manager for the Dance Theater. This nine-month position, October to June, provides support to the Assistant Coordinator of Dance/ Theater Manager and oversees the safe and proper use of the facility and its equipment. The position works predominantly on weekends and is expected to act as the liaison to the clients as well as trouble shoot all technical issues that may arise.
Duties include: working directly with lighting designer, sound and backstage staff to ensure all tasks leading up to and following the show are completed in a timely fashion; making sure the front of house staff has all the information they need to do their jobs; greeting the client upon arrival, checking in with them as necessary, and securing the building at the end of the day; interacting with audiences, as needed. The position requires the ability to effectively communicate with the FitRec facility staff, other BU departments, dance theater tech staff, front of house staff, the public, and the client to ensure a successful production.
Required Skills
Bachelors Degree in Technical Theater and 2 years of relevant experience or 4 years of relevant experience.
Ability to operate and trouble shoot theater systems: light board, sound board, projections, grid and seating system.
Experience in lighting, sound or stage management for dance preferred.
Good communication and customer service skills necessary.
