The mission of the Department of Biology, part of the College of Sciences and Mathematics, is to provide a high-quality educational experience to both undergraduate and graduate students. This is achieved by maintaining small class sizes staffed by full-time faculty. Virtually all courses have a laboratory component facilitating participatory learning. The Department has well-equipped facilities for an Animal Physiologist, including cellular physiology equipment, data acquisition systems, oxygen analyzers, a necropsy facility, incubators, a 3-D scanner, 3-D printers, zebra fish and saltwater animal facilities, flow tanks, confocal and epifluorescence microscopes, high speed camera, dual mode muscle motor, and a USDA approved animal facility with animal behavior rooms that meet standards for NIH accreditation for the use of rats and mice. The University is home to the 126-acre Gordon Natural Area, a protected area containing grassland, forest, riparian, and wetland habitats, available for teaching and faculty research.
The faculty position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses offered in-person. The ideal candidate will use innovative teaching skills and demonstrate attention to the learning and teaching needs of the department’s students. The faculty member will collaborate with other departmental faculty and staff to ensure the success of the College.
Responsibilities include:
Teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses including Human Anatomy and Physiology. Additional courses within area of specialization may be assigned based on departmental needs.
Engage in scholarly activities such as research, presentations, and publications.
Serve the University and the community through participation in various committees.
Mentor and advise students.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D in Biology, Physiology, Neurobiology, or related field. (ABD may be considered. Must be earned before August 2024.)
Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate level courses in anatomy & physiology or closely related field.
Research experience in animal biology or related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
Research experience in sensory biology, ichthyology, or vertebrate biology; and/or
Expertise developing curriculum in sensory biology, ichthyology, or vertebrate biology; and/or
Experience teaching general biology labs; and/or
Experience mentoring or advising students; and/or
Experience with advanced technologies (i.e., automated pose estimation/behavioral analysis, high speed data acquisition, electronics etc.); and/or
Experience writing and applying for grants and/or external funding.

Finalist must successfully complete an interview, teaching demonstration, and research presentation.
