Position Overview: As an Elementary Music and Band Teacher, your primary responsibility is to provide comprehensive music education to students in elementary grades, fostering their appreciation for music, developing their musical skills, and encouraging their participation in the school band. You will create a positive and inclusive learning environment that inspires students to explore and engage with music, cultivating their musical abilities and promoting teamwork and collaboration. Key Responsibilities: - Music Education:
- Develop and implement a music curriculum that aligns with national and state standards, as well as the school's educational goals and objectives
- Teach music theory, history, appreciation, and performance techniques to elementary students
- Provide instruction in vocal music, instrumental music, and music ensemble.
- Introduce students to various musical instruments, their characteristics, and proper playing techniques
- Band Program:
- Lead and direct the elementary school band, including organizing rehearsals, selecting appropriate repertoire, and conducting performances
- Instruct students in instrumental techniques, including proper posture, breathing, fingerings, embouchure, and bowing techniques
- Develop students' music reading skills and proficiency in playing their chosen instrument(s)
- Foster an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages students of varying skill levels to participate and grow in the band program
- Classroom Management:
- Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and structured learning environment that promotes student engagement and respect for one another.
- Create and enforce classroom rules and procedures that facilitate an effective learning environment
- Manage student behavior and address any disciplinary issues in accordance with the school's policies
- Individualized Instruction:
- Assess students' musical abilities and progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and guidance for improvement
- Offer individual or small-group instruction to students who require additional support or have advanced musical skills
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate students with diverse learning needs and abilities
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with other music teachers, classroom teachers, and school administrators to integrate music education into the overall curriculum
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about students' progress, upcoming performances, and other relevant information
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development activities, and school events
Qualifications: - Master's degree in Music Education
- Valid teaching certification or license in Music Education
- Demonstrated expertise in teaching music theory, history, vocal music, and instrumental music
- Proficiency in playing and teaching a variety of musical instruments
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment
- Experience in directing and conducting instrumental ensembles is preferred
- Knowledge of music technology and its integration into the curriculum is advantageous
