| The Joshua M. Freeman Foundation (JMFF) was established to honor Josh Freeman, the former Chair of the Carl M. Freeman Companies, after his untimely death in December 2006. The Foundation seeks to honor Josh’s passion and commitment to excellence by creating programs he would have been proud of. JMFF’s Arts Access Initiative includes Freeman Arts Pavilion, Young Audience Series, Community Access, and Arts Education, which provide PreK through grade 12 students and underserved families of Delmarva year-round, high-quality, diverse arts experiences at no cost. Annually, more than 120,000 residents and visitors are impacted by our mission of creating opportunities that elevate the human spirit. Freeman Arts Pavilion, an open-air performing arts venue in Selbyville, Delaware, first opened in the summer of 2008 to an overwhelmingly positive response. Freeman Arts Pavilion presents more than 60 diverse outdoor performances annually from May to September, including a wide range of music, dance, theatre, visual arts, and children’s artists. Permanent facilities for Freeman Arts Pavilion will be completed in four to six years, accommodating 4,000 patrons (1,100 under a roof) and featuring state-of-the-art sound, lighting, and video capabilities, an expanded concession and dining area, artists’ dressing rooms, and production space. JMFF is a $10M organization with 21 full-time, year-round staff, which swells to more than 80 full-time staff in summer. Volunteers are essential to success, with more than 250 serving during the summer. The Foundation seeks a Deputy Director, a new leadership position that will be a strategic partner to the founding Executive Director, Patti Grimes. The Deputy Director will manage complex responsibilities, balancing long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands. The Deputy Director’s responsibilities include facility operations, staff and volunteer management and development, and large-scale project oversight as JMFF develops and builds a permanent performing arts facility. The Deputy Director will represent the Foundation with external constituents, including community leaders, non-profit Executive Directors, major donors or funders, and government officials. Specific qualifications include: - 6-8 years of experience in leadership positions at non-profit organizations; experience with performing arts organizations is useful but not required.
- Strong financial background and acumen; experience with non-profit accounting systems and budget planning processes.
- Exceptional customer service skills and experience resolving service-related issues.
- Experience working with an executive leadership team and Board, with the ability to influence up, down, and across the organization.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, manage information streams, and oversee changing operations.
- A strong and proven interest in the mission of the Joshua M. Freeman Foundation and a demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced environments.
The salary range for this position is $120,000-$135,000. JMFF works 100% in-office, allowing staff flexibility to work from home when necessary.
