Tandem Friends School, a co-ed, Quaker, 5th-12th grade independent day school in Charlottesville, Virginia, has an opening for an upper school drama teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. Performing arts classes at Tandem have historically played an important role in the life of the school. This position will involve teaching semester-long drama classes (including public speaking) to students in grades 9-12. This position also includes the production of Fall, Winter and Spring performances that require regular after school rehearsals.

The ideal candidate will possess:
experience teaching drama to adolescents and a Bachelor’s degree, ideally with a concentration in theater, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
a strong understanding of the developmental needs of early adolescents
experience with curriculum design, and student-centered teaching and learning practices
a pedagogical approach to drama instruction that incorporates equitable and inclusive teaching strategies and curricula
a demonstrated ability to work with a diversity of student backgrounds and experience levels in the performing arts
self-awareness in regard to one’s own strengths and areas for growth; an approach to others characterized by empathy and generosity of spirit
enthusiasm for Quaker values, including principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice and Belonging
