Department: Library Salary/Rate: $18.12/hour @ 1.0 FTE FTE: 1.0 Position Summary: Electronic resources are a major component of Hannon Library's offerings. Reporting to the Collection Development Librarian, the Electronic Resources & Serials Coordinator enables access to electronic resources, including databases, ejournals, and ebooks. The position monitors electronic resource renewals to ensure prompt payment and alignment with the library's budget, and collects annual usage statistics to support appropriate spending. The Electronic Resources & Serials Coordinator is also responsible for the receipt, recording, and processing of about 400 serial titles, including physical periodicals, standing orders, and microfilm. The position creates and updates serials holdings in Ex Libris' Alma and OCLC's union catalog, resolves subscription problems with vendors including the claiming and replacement of missing issues, and collects serials data and statistics to support reporting requirements and decision making. The Coordinator is responsible for maintenance, shelving, shifting, weeding and binding in the periodicals area. The position also oversees public service for print serials and supervises student assistants. Minimum Classification Qualifications: Bachelors degree plus two years of current (within 5 years) experience in a Library; OR, 4 years of current library experience; AND, advanced proficiency in multiple library specific computer applications, e.g., integrated library systems, database applications, institutional repository; content management systems. Some positions may also require in-depth knowledge of specialty area(s), e.g., original cataloging, complex copy cataloging, serials management, ILL management, government documents, image resources, music. Preferred Qualifications: · Experience in an academic library. · Two years' experience in a serials or technical services department, or similar. · One year's experience working with the periodicals and/or inventory subsystem of a library services platform. · Experience with ExLibris Alma. · Experience with searching records in the OCLC bibliographic database and/or using OCLC's Connexion software. · Experience with collection COUNTER 5 usage statistics through the administrative modules of electronic resource vendors, such as Ebsco or ProQuest. · Experience with ABLE bindery software. · Supervisory experience, especially of students. All Listed Duties: Facilitates access to electronic resources. Adds, removes, or updates electronic resources (including databases, ejournals, and ebooks) in library systems (including Ex Libris Alma and LibGuides) in an expeditious manner. Processes and updates ejournal package title lists in Alma annually or as needed. Activates individual ebook purchases and tests to ensure access. Assists in tracking compliance with accessibility standards. , Monitors and renews electronic resources through the Orbis Cascade Alliance and individual vendors. Verifies that increases are within budget. Submits invoices to Acquisitions Technician for payment. Maintains renewal status information on Excel spreadsheet. Also maintains spreadsheet of electronic resource vendors, including account information, contacts, usage statistics administration information, etc. , Annually collects and reports usage statistics from all of our electronic resource vendors. Similarly collects statistics on the number of resources we provide in terms of databases, ejournals, ebooks, and streaming services. As needed, provides title list and usage comparisons to aid in the decision-making process for adding or cancelling resources. , Receives, processes, and distributes all physical serials publications for journals, standing orders, newspapers and microfilm. This includes creating and maintaining holdings records, labeling and security processing, routing journals to library faculty, claiming, and replacing lost or defective material. , Orders and reviews invoices for payment for all print serials subscriptions for Hannon Library, including journals, newspapers, indexes, standing orders, and microfilm. Submits invoices to Acquisitions Technician for payment. , Enters and maintains Hannon Library serials holding information in OCLC's union catalog using Connexion software. Tracks current print periodical information in a spreadsheet to serve as a basis for common managerial questions. , Collects data and statistics relating to the acquisition and usage of print periodicals to assist in allocating funds to best support the curriculum. This includes creating and maintaining spreadsheets for tracking journal price increases, and providing statistics on serials usage, price, and other data. , Coordinates the serials binding process, the shipment and receipt of periodicals to a commercial bindery. , Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates student workers. Student workers assist with the receipt and processing of new materials, shelving, stack maintenance with weeding and shifting, pulling and processing items for binding, and assisting users of print or microfilm serials. , Assists patrons in finding and using print and microfilm journals. Also answers general library and directional questions, as well as questions regarding the use of the copier and microform machines. , Creates and updates documentation of procedures for managing print periodicals and electronic resources as needed. Cross-trains in Technical Services as appropriate, especially with the Acquisitions and Cataloging Technician where many tasks are closely aligned. , Attends library meetings, in-services, and retreats as appropriate .
