Reston Community Orchestra is the musical home of over (50) talented amateur (volunteer) 
instrumentalists from Fairfax County and beyond. Our mission is simple - to share high-quality music with 
our community. We offer five free/affordable concerts per season covering a wide range of repertoire 
from well-known classics to the works of new and lesser-known composers, and annually showcase BIPOC 
soloists and composers as part of our Martin Luther King concert. Founded in 1988, we are a non-profit 
organization supported by grants from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, The Arts Council of Fairfax 
County, The National Endowment for the Arts, and the generous donations of members and supporters.
RCO owns a substantial music library including Overtures, Symphonies, Concertos, Operas, Chamber

The Music Director is an experienced conductor and skilled instrumentalist who shapes RCO’s musical 
identity.

The Music Director: 
• With Board approval, selects the performance repertoire for each season. 
• Molds the musical performances in weekly rehearsals. 
• Develops the orchestra’s musical and technical skills.
• Directs 4-6 performances per season, and 4-5 Summer Reading sessions.
• Recommends professional soloists when needed. 
• From time to time, commissions new pieces from composers.
• Works with local music educators to spotlight young people in performance with the 
Orchestra.
• Works with the orchestra’s board to develop and implement long-term artistic, financial, 
and administrative plans for the orchestra.
• As the public face of the orchestra, appears at public outreach events to publicize the 
orchestra’s role in the Reston community.
