| The Carl B. Ylvisaker Library at Concordia College seeks creative and energetic individuals to fill two positions as Instruction and Research Librarians to begin August 2023. The Carl B. Ylvisaker Library is a teaching library where all librarians are engaged in library instruction and information literacy skill development. As the college makes strategic investments in integrative learning, civic engagement, digital scholarship, and readiness for life after college, these individuals will join a strong team focused on teaching and learning. Depending on experience and interest, these two positions will assume responsibilities for either coordinating online learning and instructional design efforts in the library instruction program, or for coordinating the library instruction program for the new core undergraduate curriculum. The growth of new online and hybrid graduate programs presents new opportunities for collaboration with the faculty in the college’s three schools. The library is especially interested in applicants who will contribute to the development of a diverse campus community and who have experience working effectively with diversified populations. Responsibilities: - Collaborate with other librarians and the campus academic technologist to implement principles of online learning and instructional design in the library instruction program.
- Collaborate with other librarians and faculty on incorporating information literacy skills and dispositions into the new core curriculum, including the first-year engaged citizenship seminar and courses on critical issues in justice and sustainability.
- Serve as liaison to selected departments and interdisciplinary programs in the college’s three schools, depending on experience and interests.
- Provide library instruction sessions for liaison departments in hybrid, in-person, and virtual environments, incorporating student learning outcomes, active learning strategies, and assessment.
- Create learning resources (online research guides, instructional videos, tutorials, and digital learning objects) that can be used in and outside of the classroom.
- Develop physical and electronic collections in liaison areas.
- Build effective relationships with liaison departments, students, faculty, and other academic partners through ongoing outreach and engagement activities.
- Provide reference service and research consultations with students and faculty.
- Coordinate hybrid work schedule with other library faculty and staff.
- Participate in campus governance.
- Engage in scholarship and campus, community, and professional service activities.
Minimum Qualifications - ALA-accredited master’s degree or international equivalent (by August 2023)
- Evidence of strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
- Experience in an online learning environment and creating learning resources
- Strong commitment to user services
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with colleagues and peers
- Active commitment to inclusive excellence
- Experience working with diverse populations
Preferred Qualifications - Academic library experience
- Teaching experience
- Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes
- Knowledge of instructional design
- Experience with course management systems and LibGuides
