Founded in 1972 and celebrating its 50th anniversary, Geva’s mission is to create and produce singular theatre productions and programs for the Greater Rochester Region and beyond, by illuminating the fullness of our many human experiences. Our purpose is to steward a civic space that invites participation, fosters a true sense of belonging, and galvanizes us to collectively construct a better world through the power of story. Our core values—artistic courage, sustainability, excellence, boundless hospitality, empathy, and anti-racism—guide our work.
From world premieres and musicals to reinvigorated classics, productions are created and rehearsed in Rochester. The 517-seat Wilson Stage is the main stage while the second 180-seat Fielding Stage currently features contemporary theatre, serves as home to Geva's new play development, and welcomes the diverse programs of the Rochester Fringe Festival.
Geva seeks to produce and present work with the most exhilarating creatives in the field—locally, nationally and internationally—and to remove as many barriers as possible to performing and attending performances and other events in our space, and to better foster opportunities fo...r Rochester to connect, gather, create, collaborate, and innovate. We are committed to diversifying the curatorial perspectives and range of work we produce and present, and the engagement programing we develop in collaboration with local creatives.
For 50 years, Geva has been focused on being a strong cultural institution capable of delivering high quality productions no matter how challenging the economic situation or how scarce the resources. In our 50th season, we seek to broaden the art we present, the creatives with whom we work, and the ways in which we recognize and value people with whom we have not been connected in the past. As we celebrate, we envision a more dynamic, equitable, and accessible home for our entire community
