Position Summary: Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Production Stage Manager for The Music Department at Mason Gross School of the Arts. Reporting to the Sr. Department Administrator, the Production Stage Manager is responsible for the stage management of all performances by the Music Department and rentals of Music Department facilities. This position manages and oversees all departmental productions and performance spaces, advances all necessary lighting and sound needs for each event, including video projections, audio and video recordings of events, and live streaming, in consultation with ensemble conductors, guest artists, faculty, performance space renters, staff, and students.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: - Implements sound and video designs for each performance, ensuring each event is staffed appropriately, hiring technicians, event managers, and stage hands as needed.
- Trains all technical staff on equipment and safety procedures for venues.
- Works closely with the Mason Gross Director of Operations and Events to ensure performance spaces are safe and performance-ready, ensures audio/visual systems are maintained, and that equipment is in good working condition, accounted for, and repaired/replaced as needed.
- Acts as technical consultant and advisor to all administration, faculty, students, and users of the Music Department performance spaces, advising on new developments and technologies, recommending and advising on purchases of equipment.
Minimum Education and Experience: - Bachelor's degree preferably in stage management, theater technology, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted stage production management principles and practices.
- Two years of relevant experience.
City: New Brunswick State: NJ Equipment Utilized: - ETC Expression software or equivalent.
- Lightwright or equivalent stage lighting design software.
- Digital audio mix, live sound reinforcement, audiovisual recording and streaming technologies.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: - Must be able to lift, carry, and move large heavy equipment.
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs to catwalks.
