POSITION OVERVIEW: Student Unions & Activities (SUA) is currently accepting applications for one Graphic Designer position. The position provides an opportunity to work collaboratively within the Marketing team to develop creative, inclusive, and impactful artwork. The Graphic Designer plays a key role in marketing projects by generating concepts, preparing digital and print artwork, illustrations, and layouts. The position also supervises student employees who play an active role in the marketing and creative process. The Graphic Designer reports to the Graphics Manager and is part of a Marketing team supporting SUA and departments within Student Affairs. The position provides a flexible hybrid work schedule (mixture of on campus and work from home). The estimated salary for the position is $43,000 - $48,000, depending upon qualifications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create high quality, impactful, and creative artwork. Design materials as requested by the marketing staff (i.e. motion graphics, posters, flyers, ads, brochures etc.); take a role in complicated or large projects by generating concepts, final product illustrations, and layout for promotional items. Check all work for accuracy, prior to sending to marketing rep for proofing stage. Prepare artwork for various print and digital production as well as other production duties (i.e. In house large format printing, scanning, trimming etc.); assist Graphics Manager when applicable (65%)
Create engaging videos to promote the Student Unions & Activities, Homecoming, and Spring Jam brands (35%)
Supervise student videographer and photographer, including assign, direct and evaluate work of student employees.
Additional duties as assigned by Graphics Manager. Duties may change based on department needs.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Design Communications, or related field, or 4 years combined equivalent education and experience. Candidate must demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills, and a strong customer service orientation. Candidate must exhibit creativity and have the ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines, prioritize workload, strong attention to detail and function as a team. Familiar with MS Word, Excel, Power Point.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience developing campaigns for concerts, music, and art events is preferred. Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite, Trello, and ProofHq. Knowledge or experience working with students in a student union or university environment. Experience working with social media campaigns including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
