The Division of Student Affairs is focused on building a strong foundation to ensure every student’s IU experience is positive, safe, healthy, and meaningful. The Division of Student Affairs staff and 22 departments aim to help students navigate their time at IU, providing the tools they need to be successful in school and after graduation. As an essential part of the Indiana Memorial Union’s (IMU) mission to foster community, the Student Involvement and Leadership Center’s events, programs, and services all strive to help students find their place to belong on campus. The Student Involvement & Leadership Center fosters growth and learning among all students by designing and supporting inclusive experiences and engaging opportunities including student organization support, advising key University Student Organizations, IMU events and programs, IU Outdoor Adventures, community engagement, leadership programs, and Bowling and Billiards.
Responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) programs including annual programs like Lotus in the Meadow, Back to School Photos, Thank a Donor Day, IU Day, Candlelight Ceremony, Chalk Art Festival, and monthly holiday and cultural celebration programs.
Plans weekly series events hosted around the IMU stages located on the Main Floor, The Vault and Centennial Patio which can include Live at the IMU music series, Open Mic Nights, Trivia Nights, Food Truck Fridays, and summer weekly outdoor movie and concert series. These programming efforts require collaborations with IU Dining and IMU Meeting and Support Services.
Supervises 1 graduate student assistant who oversees weekly large scale Late Nite events each Friday and supervises 10-15 undergraduate part-time event assistants and Late Nite student managers.
Supervises 1 practicum graduate student assistant in conjunction with the Higher Education and Student Affairs graduate program and 1 IMU Events Intern in partnership with the School of Public Health.
Builds partnerships with local non-profits, Bloomington Parks and Recreation department, Bloomington Chamber of Commerce and other local departments to coordinate new event opportunities where the IMU is a host location.
Develops and implements in coordination with Student Involvement and Leadership Center staff members a comprehensive assessment on student participation, satisfaction, and campus-community benefits on produced programs.
Builds partnerships with students, faculty and staff on campus by serving as a representative of the IMU to campus committees and projects [i.e. New Student Orientation; IU Sustainability; Residential Programs and Services; Martin Luther King Celebration; Fraternity & Sorority Life; Homecoming; Alumni Association].
Develops and implements programs and initiatives geared at improving student engagement and involvement outcomes at the program, department/division, or campus level.
Interfaces directly with students, attending student life events and programs and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student life initiatives and objectives.
Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as student organization leaders, on shared student life goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student life initiatives.
Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student life initiatives against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports and presents to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
Provides guidance to student organizations regarding operations, budget, leadership, activities, recruitment, registration, policies, and compliance.
Promotes leadership and student development through advising of individual student leaders and volunteers. Contributes to formation, interpretation, and implementation of student organization policies.
Plans and coordinates communications for student life initiatives to ensure student participation and inclusion.
May provide guidance to other Student Life Specialists; makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.
Bachelor's degree in public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, education, business, arts administration, event management, or related field
2 years in student services, higher education, arts administration, event management, or related field
