Located in the heart of Baltimore's Mount Vernon Cultural District, the Peabody Institute was founded in 1857 as America's first academy of music. Today, through its degree-granting Conservatory and its community-based Preparatory school of music and dance, Peabody trains musicians and dancers of every age and at every level. The Peabody Preparatory shares space with the Peabody Conservatory in downtown Baltimore, and also has three satellite branches in the communities of Towson, Annapolis and Howard County, MD. The Preparatory has approximately 2,000 students studying all orchestral instruments, guitar, piano, voice, dance, theory, composition, early childhood, orchestra, chamber music and more. Through all levels of our program children absorb, imitate, and model developmentally appropriate musical behaviors from a highly skilled and caring faculty who help guide students toward a lifelong enjoyment and understanding of music.
