The Department of Theatre and Dance at Belmont University is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 1, 2023.
Job responsibilities include instruction in theatre production design and related courses in theatre, such as Lighting and Sound Design, and Theatre Experience. Belmont University’s Department of Theatre and Dance seeks a full-time faculty in Production Design and Technology: Lighting Design. Experience in Sound Design and Engineering would also be beneficial. Start date: August 1, 2023. The successful candidate will have experience teaching a broad range of design and technology courses for both majors and non-majors. Courses may include Fundamental of Production Design, Lighting Design, Design Portfolio, CAD, Sound Design for Theatre, First-Year Seminar, Performance and Production Lab, and/or Theatre Experience. This position will include designing mainstage productions and mentoring student designers for Theatre and Dance season. Participation in recruiting locally and nationally is expected, as is ongoing participation in departmental, college-level, and university-wide service. The successful candidate will hold an MFA or terminal theatre degree. A professional profile in theatre with union membership and/or professional affiliations are preferred qualifications, as is ongoing professional design experience.

Knowledge of undergraduate theatre production design curricula preferred. Knowledge of best practices and ongoing developments in theatrical lighting design and technology. Knowledge of professional theatrical production processes and terminology.

Demonstrated commitment to student recruitment and retention. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the public in a professional manner. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Experience working in a fast-paced, hard-working environment with the ability to respond quickly in high-pressure situations.
