Position Summary: The Department of Music in the College of Arts and Sciences at North Central College seeks candidates at the rank of Associate or Full Professor to serve as Department Chair, beginning August 1, 2023. Appointment may be offered with tenure for qualified candidates. North Central College offers a competitive compensation and benefits package; the chairperson of the Music Department carries a 2-2 teaching load on a 9.5-month contract. The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in music (PhD, DMA, or EdD). Preferred areas of specialization include, but are not limited to: Music Education, Jazz Studies, Orchestral Conducting, or Music Industry.
The successful candidate will have an established and ongoing record of academic achievement; evidence of effective leadership of faculty; and a commitment to ensuring programs thrive while joining departmental goals with the College's strategic plan. The Department of Music offers BA degrees in Music, Jazz Studies, Music Composition, Instrumental Performance, Vocal Performance, Piano Performance, and the BME. Degree in Choral Music Education and Instrumental Music Edu-cation. The Department of Music also offers multiple student performing opportunities in choral music, wind band, orchestra, jazz, and chamber music. The Chair will supervise the department budget, curriculum, class scheduling, and music facility-related issues.
