Role: After School Music Instructor (Part-time role)
Schedule: TBD; At least one day a week from 3:10 - 5:30 PM (teaching time 3:25 - 4:10 for session 1 and 4:15 - 5:00 for session 2 plus set-up/clean-up), from September 19, 2022 - June 14, 2023; opportunities for occasional substitute work.
Pay Rate: $175 ($75 per session + $25 for 30 minutes prep and clean-up).
Job Summary: The After School Music Instructor will lead an after school music course for students that may range from 8-14 years old. The types of music course taught will depend on the knowledge and skill of the instructor. Some example courses are small group keyboard instruction, small group string instruction, rock band, or string ensemble. Additional instruments and skills are also welcome. This role will be under the direction of the Auxiliary Program and Music Coordinator.
This position runs September - June along the SFC school calendar.
In collaboration with the After School Director and Music Coordinator, design level appropriate lessons for students.
Participate as a member of a collaborative, cooperative After School program - sharing information and strategies to sustain a healthy classroom community.
Build relationships with students so they treat each other well and stay on task.
Use classroom management skills to run and support an energetic classroom of children, while maintaining and reinforcing health and safety rules.
Support students in moving safely through the hallways and in and out of the building during various times of the afternoon, following building-wide health and safety regulations.
Oversee the safe transfer of children to afterschool and dismissal to authorized adults.
High School diploma required and Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience with teaching music courses to students is preferred. A curiosity and commitment to learning more about our approach to this type of learning is necessary
Experience managing a classroom and teaching children preferred (experience working with young children a plus)
Experience with progressive education preferred
Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team, as well as develop skills in working with individual children, small groups, and the whole class.
