Presidio Hill School Job Title: TK-8 Flex Teacher School Description Presidio Hill School is an independent, progressive school located in the Presidio Heights neighborhood of San Francisco and serves a diverse population of 220 students enrolled in transitional kindergarten to 8th grade, with a faculty and staff of approximately 45 people. Established in 1918 by artist-educator-activists Helen Salz and Flora Arnstein, Presidio Hill School is the oldest continuously operating progressive school in California, with a mission and deep history connected to social justice. Our TK-8 Flex Teacher will have demonstrated passion and experience teaching and working with students and a school community that explicitly strives to be inclusive. Position Description Presidio Hill School seeks a TK-8 Flex Teacher (full time preferred; part time will be considered) for the entirety of the 2022-2023 school year. This is a full-time, on-campus position that will provide in-house substitute coverage across lower and middle school divisions, as well as after school programming if/when needed. Qualified candidates will demonstrate a deep understanding of and interest in the developmental nuances of lower elementary & middle school-aged children, progressive education, and anti-bias teaching practices. Candidates will ideally have prior experience teaching elementary grades (TK-5 and/or 6-8). The TK-8 Flex Teacher will be expected to support classes, as needed, across grade-levels. PHS utilizes aspects of Responsive Classroom, Developmental Designs, TERC Investigations, Lucy Calkins Writing Workshop, and Fundations, and candidates with experience in these areas are preferred.
In addition to providing excellent teaching and maintaining effective communication with parents and students, teachers are expected to contribute to the greater PHS community. PHS teachers work closely with each other and collaborate and engage in a positive manner; excellent interpersonal skills are a necessity.
