The USC Thornton School of Music invites applications for a Student Services Assistant in itâs Admission and Student Affairs office.
The Thornton Admission and Student Affairs office serves music majors who are pursuing undergraduate and masterâs degrees, graduate certificates, and music minors. The Student Services Assistant is an essential role that allows us to provide excellent advising, programming, and other forms of support for our students. The assistant will deliver and coordinate administrative functions including oversight of the front office from open to close of business each day and budgeting administration. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be highly organized, and be able to multi-task effectively.

This Student Services Assistant is key in supporting the Admission and Student Affairs office in the following tasks:
Coordinating front office functions
Ensuring front office compliance with masking and social distancing policy
Providing administrative support for Admission and Student Affairs.
Responding to questions from faculty, students, staff and outside callers regarding registration, course scheduling and availability, transcripts, admission policies.
Making preliminary assessments of student problems and issues, and making recommendations, including referring more complex cases to senior staff.
Organizing, scheduling, and coordinating activities such as student receptions, workshops for students, new student orientation sessions, auditions and special events.
Collecting, coordinating, and reporting student information for internal projects.
Reviewing and maintaining student records, inputting data, generating letters, and verifying student information.
Organizing and carrying out budget and financial transactions, including reconciliation of financial statements and purchasing.
Performing other related duties as assigned and requested.

Previous University experience

Excellent planning and organizational skills
The ability to handle projects with minimal supervision
A collaborative working style
Expertise with various software (including the Microsoft Office suite) and the willingness and ability to explore new technologies to address office needs
Understanding of USCâs academic, admission and financial aid policies and experience with USCâs systems, including the Student Information System (SIS) are highly desirable.
Minimum Education:Â Related undergraduate study.Â Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
Minimum Experience:Â 1 year
Minimum Field of Expertise:Â Administrative and/or academic support services.
Preferred Education:Â Bachelorâs degree.
Preferred Experience:Â 3 yearsâ experience, preferably in an academic environment.Â Experience with Excel, SIS, PowerPoint, and MS Word.
