Children’s Theatre of Charlotte is seeking a like-minded Business Manager to serve as the steward of our financial resources and business operations.

What will you do as Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s next Business Manager?

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Business Manager provides forward-looking financial planning and daily management of our finance, accounting, and administrative functions in alignment with the Theatre’s mission, goals, budget, and operational needs. The ideal candidate will have excellent financial experience, exemplary communication skills, a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a passion for theatre.

As a vital member of our Finance/Administration Team, our Business Manager provides hands-on leadership and is directly responsible for the management of several key accounting and reporting functions, including payroll administration, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and compliance with contractual documents and government regulations. The Business Manager works closely with the Managing Director to maintain and monitor accounting controls and procedures; ensure accurate entries, allocations, classifications, tracking, and reporting of activities  

Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s Business Manager will:

• Actively manage and oversee all accounting and payroll operations/activities, ensuring that these systems are accurate, efficient, and in accordance with professional accounting practices and governmental regulations. Provide the Managing Director with critical updates and insight on financial and operational activities that require immediate or special attention to stay on budget, on schedule and compliant.  
• In collaboration with the Managing Director, develop and manage multi-year and annual budgeting process, working with all departments to develop departmental budgets, expenditure projections, cash flow projections, and year-end projections.  This includes facilitating deadlines, team discussions, analyses, and developing multiple scenarios.
• Prepare and present accurate and timely financial reports for the Managing Director, Finance Committee and Board of Directors to monitor the budget and address current issues.
• Manage and oversee the payroll and retirement fund administration, in collaboration with the HR Manager and Staff Accountant, ensuring accuracy, efficiency and in compliance with professional accounting practices and governmental regulations.
• Establish, monitor, and maintain accounting controls and procedures; ensure all financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies and procedures and all financial reporting deadlines are met.
• Oversee and support the financial relationship with Charlotte Mecklenburg Library (CML), including shared revenue, expenses, and capital needs. Serve on the ImaginOn Management Committee, providing budget information prepared in conjunction with the CML Finance Director.
• Prepare annual financial statements in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and coordinate the annual independent financial statement audit, adhering to all deadlines. Lead, coordinate and ensure timely submission of all federal and state income and payroll tax returns and regulatory filings.
• In collaboration with the Managing Director, provide oversight of and accounting for the endowment fund pledges and investments. Maintain the relationship with the Investment Manager and facilitate communication between Finance Committee and the Investment Manager.
• Provide support and accounting for restricted funds designated for specific programs. Prepare or review financial information and reports for new grant submission, reports for grants received and final reports.
• Manage the organization’s insurance policies including not but limited to general liability, workers compensation insurance, directors & officers’ insurance. Manage the worker compensation review and audit in partnership with the auditors and department managers.
• In collaboration with the Managing Director and Finance Committee, plan, review, approve, and track all capital expenditures and appropriate depreciation.
• Supervise, direct, manage and engage the Staff Accountant, including monitoring performance and assigning duties and responsibilities.
