Responsible for providing visionary leadership and management for all visual and performing arts activity on campuses and in the surrounding communities. Coordinates academic, performance, and event related staff and services in the Mendel Center by the development, implementation and management of policies and procedures related to effective operation. Oversees event support services, performance and event schedules, arts student recruitment, arts scholarship management, marketing and sales plans, pricing strategies, and management of expenditures to ensure achievement of annual and long-term financial and enrollment/academic success goals. Continuously works to create and maintain a culture of true collaboration, integration, and shared ownership between the academic and commercial activities occurring at Lake Michigan College’s Mendel Center. Works variable schedule, including extended workdays and weekends. 1. Provides leadership for the arts at Lake Michigan College by developing goals, internal and external operational infrastructure for evolving departmental needs, and strategies for success. 2. Oversees the development and implementation of all arts curriculum and programming in the Mendel Center, encompassing a range of diverse educational and entertainment opportunities for students and the community. 3. Serves as the decision maker of Mendel Center calendar and performance season. Works with promoters to secure performance talent, procures contracts, and executes riders from outside talent. 4. Coordinate event staffing, oversight, and collaboration with outsourced personnel as needed for the successful operation and implementation of events and classes. 5. Facilitates personnel functions, interviews potential candidates, encourages professional development, monitors work assignments, and assists staff in resolution of issues. 6. Serves as the chief recruiter for the arts at the college, both in academic enrollment pursuits and talent acquisition of students, community partners, faculty/staff, and visiting artists. In this capacity, serves as director of summer arts camps and tour manager, when appropriate. 7. Liaison with community partners, subscribers, and arts donors. Manages sponsorships and In-kind agreements, as well as Visual & Performing Arts Scholarships and Grants. Serves as the Chair of the Lake Michigan College Visual & Performing Arts Advisory Board. 8. Develops, oversees, and approves the Mendel Center’s strategic and annual marketing and sales plans that include targeting market segments, preparation of sales materials, and the development of outreach and advertising campaigns, and special events. 9. Develops, monitors, and oversees the management of all relevant budgets and other fiscal considerations for the arts at the college. 10. Conducts relevant market data analysis, customer service data collection and analysis to inform decision making processes. 11. Manages arts related Continuing Education Units and community arts education programs. 12. Establishes and monitors professional standards and practices to ensure customer service benchmarks are achieved, facilities are safe, and food, beverage and alcohol standards meet or exceed all local, state, and national regulations and guidelines. 13. Liaison with internal offices (e.g. facilities, security, information technology, central scheduler) to coordinate support services for unique needs of the department.

Bachelor’s degree required, Arts Administration, Arts Management, Arts (Music, Drama, Dance, Art) Education, or related field preferred. Minimum of four years of management experience required, Arts Administration related preferred. Practical knowledge of music, theatre, dance, and/or visual art curation and event management required. Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required. Work is fast paced with deadlines and requires the ability to handle multiple tasks. Flexible daily and weekly schedule. Must be proficient in computer applications. |
