Visiting Assistant Professor of Dance

Description
It is expected that the candidate will teach all levels of modern technique classes, choreograph for the Webster University Dance Ensemble, advise students, and assist with recruitment efforts. Knowledge in the following fields is considered necessary: Composition, Improvisation, and Performance Techniques.

It is expected that the candidate will be able to teach all levels of modern technique classes, choreograph for the Webster University Dance Ensemble, advise students, and support recruitment efforts. Knowledge in the following fields is considered necessary: Composition and Improvisation, with additional teaching interests that could include Pedagogy, Performance Techniques, and International Dance .

Curriculum:

Advise and register sophomore and junior dance majors and minors

Teach a full load

Assist with the development and implementation of the curriculum Student Responsibilities:

Assist with Student Recruitment

Participate in Auditions, Interviews of Prospective Students

Assist with Student Retention

Meet with various potential students and their families

Participate in end of year Awards Ceremony and New Student Orientation Activities

Serve as Dance Club Advisor

Provide mentorship in coursework, supplemental training and performance opportunities, and career planning Community Outreach:

Assist in Educational Outreach such as Dance Lecture Demonstrations and Workshops

Assist in Providing Teachers/Performers for Special Community Events whenever possible Performance Commitments:

Serve as Artistic Director of Webster University Dance Ensemble (WUDE) - refer to attached

Oversee Production Aspects of All Performances associated with the Dept of Dance, such as WUDE, BFA Concerts, Creations Concerts, New Works, Parent's Weekend performance

Serve as mentor of Creations Concerts (the laboratory series for students)

Be responsible for Guest Artists for WUDE and Master Classes/Workshops

Choreograph for WUDE/New Works

Serve as Rehearsal Director when necessary Communications:

Refer to attached Webster University Dance Ensemble Artistic Director Responsibilities Other Administrative Duties:

Attend and support the Summer Intensives and Winter Dance Workshop

Coordinate participation in the annual regional American College Dance Conference

Coordinate participation every other year in the National American College Dance Festival, if invited.

Attend University and Department faculty meetings and development trainings

Assist Department of Dance Chair when needed

Minimum Qualifications
MFA or comparable professional experience. Strong leadership, organizational and management skills. Vision, commitment and passion. Experience with youth programming, experience in recruiting and retention and a demonstrated commitment to equity in higher education that supports a diverse student body.

Preferred Qualifications
Significant experience teaching all levels of modern, improvisation, and mentoring students in choreography and research

Instructional = be physically active for long periods of time. Administrative = within the range of a normal office environment. Frequently lifts 25 pounds and is occasionally exposed to external conditions
