Position Summary Under supervision of the Director of Chamber Music, the Chamber Music Manager and Librarian is to oversee the day-to-day administrative operations of the string and piano chamber music areas. This position supports the Director of Chamber Music in planning, developing and implementing all aspects of the Chamber Music Program as well as providing vision and structure to the program. Ideal candidates will have extensive communication and outreach skills and ability to think creatively in an organized and collaborative manner. Experience working in an institution of higher learning is preferable. This will be a 9 month exempt position with the possibility of 2 months of additional work in the summer. Essential Functions - Maintaining detailed records of the chamber music program. This includes student assignments, faculty teaching assignments, rehearsal rooms, concert programs, and special events including masterclasses, residencies, and outreach.
- Tracking and organizing student and faculty requests and supporting the Director in the formation of chamber music groups.
- Working with External Relations Director on the promotion and marketing of concerts, masterclasses, and special events relating to the chamber music program.
- Working with the Print and Publications Coordinator to compose and proof all concert programs and marketing materials.
- Coordinate all advance logistics of concerts and rehearsals with the Manager of Operations and Production Staff so that all events run smoothly and seamlessly
- Provide support for all faculty and guest chamber music masterclasses working with faculty to select class participants and arrange program order.
- Support all chamber music residencies and exchange programs. May require booking travel arrangements, hotel accommodations, and other aspects of the program
- Work in tandem with the Orchestra Manager and Librarian to implement the Shepherd School Chamber Players by coordinating sheet music purchases/rentals, creating all ensemble scheduling, communicating with the faculty, and providing rehearsal and concert support as outlined separately.
- Manage all communications for the String and Piano Chamber Music program. Make announcements and upload information to the program's Canvas site as needed.
- Serve as the coordinator for the annual String department concerto competition by supporting the department chair in the recruitment and hiring of external judges for the concerto finals.
Additional Functions / Information - Maintain the school's chamber music library working to preserve office materials while also working with the Music Librarian to identify and purchase materials for the university collection
- Provide basic event planning/catering support to chamber music festivals and special events as needed.
- Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, and administration to anticipate needs and ad hoc problem solve relevant issues.
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Music or other related field
- Three years of related experience in a chamber music role,
- In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted
- Advanced ability to work with music faculty, senior university staff and the general campus community
- Excellent oral and written communications, excellent interpersonal, communications, collaborative, and negotiating skills
- Excellent organizational skills and time management skills
- Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills, creative thinker
Preferred Qualifications - Master of Music Degree
- Experience working in an institution of higher education
