JOB POSTING: Library Assistant Full-time, full benefits __________________________________________________________________________________________ APPLY TO: Villa Academy OPEN DATE: June 28, 2022 Hiring Coordinator CLOSING DATE: Until Filled JOB OVERVIEW The Library Assistant supervises and assists students using the library, creating a positive student work atmosphere by monitoring student conduct and providing one-on-one assistance. The Library Assistant manages the circulation desk; checks books in and out; reserves materials; and gathers materials for students, faculty and staff, as well as performs a wide variety of routine library duties including processing, shelving, and displaying books.
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Plans the acquisition, organization, maintenance, utilization, and retention of materials, software and equipment in the library;
- Maintains library collections of books, serial publications, documents, magazines, newspapers, music recordings, audio books, video recordings, Internet resources, and other resource materials, and aids groups and individuals in locating and obtaining requested materials;
- Illustrates, explains, and assists in use of electronic resources including library databases, computer databases, periodical indexes, and the Internet;
- Conduct classification, cataloging, indexing, and shelving of books and materials;
- Identifies and meets needs of students and faculty for information, and develops programs to stimulate students' interests in reading and use of types of resources;
- Coordinate library events such as bookfairs, small groups meetings and workshops;
- Commit to continuous improvement and professional development by attending school events, trainings, and professional development days;
- Reviews records to compile lists of holds and overdue materials, and notifies borrowers to arrange for their return;
- Participates in the various shared duties of all school employees (e.g. recess supervision);
- Maintain the library as an attractive, welcoming, efficiently-run space.
QUALIFICATIONS Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Early Childhood/Community College and/or University degree;
- At least 3 years of experience working with children in a classroom setting;
- Understanding of basic library systems including knowledge of call numbers using decimals;
- Commitment to the mission, vision and values of Villa Academy;
- Desire to be part of a faith-based learning community;

- Ability to communicate effectively with students ranging from age 3 to middle-school, and with faculty, staff, and parents using tact, courtesy and good judgment;
- Possess excellent English speaking and writing skills;
- Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail to meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions;
- Ability to operate a computer and learn the operations of the circulation system;
- Experience with bar-coding and library check-out system desirable;
- Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions, policies and procedures;
- Ability to operate, or demonstrate a willingness to learn to operate, standard office equipment such as a computer, laminator, and printer;
- Ability to successfully intervene with disruptive students;
- Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
