| Director of Music Full Job Description New Life Presbyterian Church in Roseville, MN, a fully inclusive, social justice-supporting church, seeks a Director of Music to rebuild a strong and appealing music program which will offer rewarding learning and performance opportunities to singers and other musicians, and promote an uplifting sense of spiritual connection among members, visitors, and extended community. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: - A. or equivalent in music, church music, music education, etc. Keyboard instrument proficiency
- Conducting experience with singers and other musicians; handbell interest a plus
- Familiarity and experience with traditional and contemporary sacred music and interest in exploring culturally diverse music
SKILLS: - Good interpersonal skills for recruiting and working with volunteers
- Ability to treat musicians/singers of all skill levels with respect, and willingness to listen to their concerns
- Ability to cultivate a team spirit among musicians/singers and make rehearsals and performances an inspiring and enjoyable experience
Ability to work harmoniously with pianist/organist and other musicians o Computer skills to facilitate creation and use of musical programming for worship services Ability to use online meeting formats for meetings, rehearsals, and services RESPONSIBILITIES: - Oversee music library
- In consultation with clergy, organist, and other worship leaders, plan appropriate congregational hymns as well as music for vocal and instrumental ensembles in worship services Rehearse and conduct adult choir and instrumental ensembles
- As improved circumstances may permit, build youth musical ensembles
- Periodically send email messages to choir members with updates and reminders, and to clearly communicate expectations including rehearsal and performance schedules; provide such home practice resources as links to audio recordings or videos to be used as home practice tools to facilitate preparation of musical works
- Optional: although the duties of the music director do not include the duties of the organist/pianist, it might be helpful if the music director could be available to participate in keyboard performance on occasion, such as an organ & piano duet.
