The University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music is excited to welcome a dynamic teacher and researcher to provide leadership in string music education for the state, region, and nation. The school seeks candidates with the demonstrated potential to contribute effectively to a faculty team dedicated to creating a positive, influential, and accepting learning environment for a student population that is diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, sexual orientation or identity, disability status, and protected veteran status. An essential characteristic of this position will be a passion for equity, inclusion, access, and social justice as evidenced through teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
Duties and responsibilities include: teaching music education courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels, particularly those focused on string music education (other duties assigned dependent upon the candidate's expertise and area needs); collaboration in the evolution of music education courses to reflect diverse contemporary theory and practice; demonstration of inclusive education practices in the music education program through teaching, mentoring, and related activities; maintaining a record of scholarly activity; supervising graduate and undergraduate research , including graduate theses and dissertations, and serving on graduate student committees; organizing outreach activities in local schools and community; service on committees; recruitment, advising, retention, and alumni relations; record of excellence in publication/research appropriate to rank; demonstrated skills in equity-forward teaching practices and a record of working closely with and advocating for students representing diverse backgrounds and experiences; commitment and demonstrated abilities to work well with colleagues, address student recruitment, foster outreach activities, and connect with local school districts and teachers.
Preference will be given to candidates who have a Ph.D. in Music Education by the date of appointment. Candidates with an Ed.D. or D.M.A. in Music Education will also be considered.
A minimum of three years of successful full-time K-12 school music teaching experience is required.
