ABOUT THE FLYNN The Flynn Center for the Performing Arts is Northern New England’s premiere performing arts center. The Flynn offers a wide range of cultural and educational experiences and nurtures the creative development of performing artists. Our facilities include a 1,411-seat proscenium auditorium (Flynn Main Stage), a 180-seat black box cabaret space (Flynn Space), two education studios, a gallery with rotating exhibits of regional artists, and adjoining lobbies. We are also developing a wide range of programs that will encourage artists and audiences to gather for experiences in public space. The Flynn hosts over 200 performances yearly. Regularly scheduled performances include the Flynn season, which features world-class music, Broadway, theater, dance, and family performances on our Main Stage, with additional touring shows added throughout the year and weekday matinees presented through our Student Matinee Series. We also produce the annual Burlington Discover Jazz Festival. The Flynn provides a performance venue for the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, the Vermont Youth Orchestra, Lyric Theater, and other local arts organizations. BASIC FUNCTION A versatile and people-oriented professional, the Director of Programming ensures a positive, welcoming, and inclusive community. The Director of Programming is responsible for booking the Flynn’s annual Main Stage performance lineup while supporting the presentation of performances and events to ensure overall quality and success within financial guidelines and strategic goals. This position works across departments to apply professional project management principles, budgetary acumen, curatorial insights, and communication skills to successfully guide artistic initiatives, organizational events, and community focused projects. The Director of Programming builds audiences and fosters artistic and community relationships that support the Flynn’s mission and elevates the organization’s visibility across a variety of platforms.
