The Academy of Notre Dame de Namur, an independent, college-preparatory, Catholic, all-girls’ day school, seeks an experienced and engaging full time Music Teacher to begin August 15, 2022. Founded in 1856 by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, the school, located on the Main Line outside Philadelphia, is dedicated to teaching young women “what they need to know for life” in preparation for responsible living in a global society. Reporting to the Chair of the Arts Department, the Instrumental/General Music Teacher contributes to a vibrant, robust performing arts program through the development, delivery, and management (grades, conferences, performances) of music classes taught to Middle and Upper School students. This teacher partners with other faculty, engages students in their artistic pursuits, builds strong partnerships with families and students, and encourages a safe, supportive, and inclusive school climate. The Instrumental Music Teacher: - Has working knowledge of Instrumental Music at the Middle and Upper School levels, for students in grades 6-12 of varying experience, supporting beginners through advanced levels.
- Has the ability to create, execute, and collaborate on a curriculum for an Introduction to Performing Arts class for freshman students.
- Has a background in Musical Theater, Pit Orchestra, and/or Technical Theater (not required).
- Able to arrange music for an eclectic variety of instruments and skill levels to accommodate the needs of the Instrumental Ensembles at large
- Creates and delivers a variety of engaging music curriculum
- Facilitates a variety of summative and formative evaluative assessments, including video recordings, peer critiques, and oral and written feedback.
- Employs excellent verbal communication skills, demonstrating the ability and willingness to connect with students and colleagues in a caring, collaborative, and positive manner both in and out of the classroom
- Exhibits strength in educational and theatrical technology
- Collaborates with other music faculty to vertically align music curriculum
- Helps create, organize, and direct music concerts (including but not limited to Middle and Upper School Ensemble performance, publicity, programming, concert setup and breakdown)
- Establishes a culture of positive communication with students, colleagues, and parents; responds to messages and inquiries in a timely manner
- Demonstrates comfort and skill engaging diverse learners
- Creates an inclusive and equitable classroom/work environment
- Maintains a safe, orderly, and supportive classroom environment
Qualifications include: - A bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related subject; Master’s degree preferred
- 4+ years of middle and/or high school music education (Instrumental specialization preferred)
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and methodology of effective teaching
- Skilled in the use of instructional technologies to enhance learning and deliver content
- A high degree of emotional intelligence, cultural humility, and commitment to girls’ education
