Department: | Department of Theatre UMBC's Department of Theatre has approximately 100 majors, offering a BA in Theatre with tracks in Design and Production, Theatre Studies or Education and a BFA in Acting, all taught in our state-of-the-art facilities. Responsibilities: | The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Department of Theatre seeks an Assistant Costume Shop Manager (First Hand/Stitcher) to provide technical support to the Costume Shop Supervisor for our four-production academic season. Specific duties include: - Assisting in the classroom
- Training and supervising student construction and wardrobe crews
- Pattern cutting, garment construction, assisting with fittings and attending technical rehearsals
- General support of the Costume Shop Supervisor
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Secondary skills in the areas of wigs/hair and make-up desired. May also teach courses in areas of specialization, and the potential for design assignments. Anticipated Start Date: Late July 2022 |
Required Minimum Qualifications: | This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre or related field. Must have at least one year of experience in the following areas: strong knowledge of theatrical costume construction (skills in machine and hand sewing, alteration of existing garments, and professional finishing techniques); leadership experience in theatrical wardrobe; proficiency with standard costume shop equipment. The candidate should have skills in communication, collaboration, and time management as well as a team-oriented focus. Must have a valid driver’s license, be able to stand for long periods of time, lift up to 40 pounds, use stairs and ladders and move up and down from the floor. The ability to maintain a flexible work schedule including nights and weekends is required. |
Preferred Qualifications: | Professional theatrical costume shop experience and experience working with variously skilled students is highly desired. |
