Summary of Position:
Ferris State University’s Department of Humanities is looking to fill the position of a Level 1 Adjunct Instructor of Music. Primary responsibilities include conducting the University’s Concert Choir. This is a part-time position for one course. The Concert Choir rehearses once weekly on Tuesday evenings in the Music Center on Ferris State University’s main campus in Big Rapids.

Master’s degree in Music Education or in Conducting
Required Work Experience:
• Successful experience as a high school, college or university music choral conductor • Successful experience in a secondary or post-secondary educational institution in programming and presenting public concerts • Successful experience in a secondary or post-secondary educational institution recruiting participants for choral ensembles • Successful experience in a secondary or post-secondary educational institution promoting and publicizing the activities of choral ensembles • Successful experience in a secondary or post-secondary educational institution working with other ensemble directors, music faculty and staff

• A Music degree with an emphasis in choral music education and/or in choral conducting • Successful work experience with choral music ensembles that rehearse regularly and include non-student community members • Successful work experience in collaborating with other ensemble conductors, music faculty and staff • Successful work experience in providing vocal chamber ensemble opportunities and/or other musically enriching experiences for choral members
• This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Humanities, within the College of Arts, Sciences and Education • Teaching and conducting the Concert Choir • Selecting, acquiring, preparing, distributing, rehearsing, performing, and re-collecting music for the Concert Choir • Maintaining the choral music used within the choral music library • Recruiting Concert Choir participants • Promoting and publicizing the activities of the Concert Choir • Preparing concert programs • Presenting public concerts every semester • Distributing and re-collecting University concert attire for Concert Choir members • Meeting with the Concert Choir class during its scheduled times • Posting and holding office hours at a times convenient for Concert Choir students • Submitting a syllabus for the Concert Choir to the Department of Humanities Office, every semester • Assuring learning through student assessment, every semester • Working collegially and collaboratively with the Music Area faculty, staff and students • Demonstrating excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Demonstrating the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, communities and cultures • Maintaining the confidentiality of designated information • Performing duties in compliance with applicable University policies and procedures
