The School of Music (SoM) in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track faculty position in Applied Clarinet at the rank of assistant professor.
About the Position This is a 100%-time position over the nine-month academic year (late-August to late-May) beginning fall semester 2022 (8/29/2022) at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor, depending on qualifications and experience, and consistent with collegiate and University policy.
Salary is competitive and is commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and experience. The position is also eligible for the University of Minnesota’s standard benefits package available to benefits-eligible faculty and academic staff.
Teach and develop courses related to clarinet performance, as well as other areas of curricular interest, expertise, or need;
Proactively recruit and maintain an outstanding, nationally competitive population of applied clarinet students in undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including Performance, Music Education, Music Therapy, and Bachelor of Arts;
Maintain an active professional performance career;
Assist with ensemble coaching (course instruction and coaching will be balanced with primary responsibilities in studio instruction);
Advise graduate students on specific coursework and broader academic or career goals;
Participate with ensemble conductors in the large ensemble audition process and part assignments;
Provide service through participation in governance and committees within the School of Music and/or the University;
Contribute to community outreach and engagement activities that support the School of Music.

Required/Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to applicants with a Doctoral degree in Clarinet Performance or equivalent professional experience. Applicants should have an established record as a performer and be able to prepare students to navigate the current musical landscape. Performance experience should ideally include solo repertoire and concert and chamber ensembles. Evidence of successful studio teaching experience at the university or college level is essential, in addition to excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Candidates will be evaluated on the quality of professional preparation and creative work, current national reputation and potential international recognition as a performer and pedagogue, and commitment to and excellence in teaching. Candidates will also be evaluated based on the strength of recommendations.
