Advertised Job Summary: The Department of Theatre and Dance is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Associate or Assistant Professor of Theatre – Acting and Movement Specialist. The position will commence August 16, 2022. We are in the process of re-envisioning the structure of our MFA actor training and student experiences in preparation for their 21st century careers and seek an enterprising colleague to join us. Successful candidates will have expertise in acting practices such as, but not limited to, Stanislavski, Uta Hagan, Meisner, Michael Chekov, Stella Adler, Lee Strasburg, Practical Aesthetics, community-based theatre practice or heightened text. Candidate will have special expertise in one or more movement modalities such as, but not limited to, Lecoq, Suzuki, Martial Arts/Tai Chi, Laban, Alexander, Mask, Mime, Capoeira, devising techniques, physical theatre, Yoga, Noh Theatre, Tap, Jazz dance, Musical Theatre choreography and repertoire, Roth, Viewpoints, Barba and Grotowski, Kuttiyatam/Bharatnatyam dance training, West Java/Balinese dance training, African Dance, Social Dance, BOS Technique, or stage combat. The Associate or Assistant Professor of Theatre – Acting and Movement Specialist will promote student advancement in the classroom/studio and through experiential learning in the production program in collaboration with our accomplished faculty and internationally recognized guest artists. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellence in teaching, advising, and mentoring, and have significant accomplishments in creative achievement. Experience or interest in working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels is highly desirable, along with a demonstrated commitment to ongoing development of culturally responsive practice. Successful candidates will be dedicated to building a learning environment of inclusivity, collaboration, equity and excellence. Responsibilities include teaching courses in acting and movement dynamics for undergraduate and graduate actors and in other theatre performance areas as qualified. The normal teaching load is 3/3. Contribution to the Department's production program as an acting/movement coach and/or choreographer is expected. Directing opportunities are available. Additional duties include advising students, assisting in student recruitment, and supervising students as teaching assistants and in creative projects. Service on departmental and university committees is expected, as is contribution to program design and curricular development to prepare students for the future in performance practice. Advertised Minimum Qualifications : The successful applicant should have a Ph.D.. or M.F.A. with an (exceptional ) record of professional creative achievement in theatrical productions. Candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching, course development , advising, mentoring, research/creative work (individually and with students), service and grant proposal writing. Successful candidates should also expect to supervise students and creative /research endeavors. Interest in developing innovative curricula that reflects current trends in the field, as well as university initiatives, is expected. A strong record of scholarship, both creative and theoretical work, and a demonstrated record of professional stewardship in the field at the national level is required. Full/Part Time: Full Time
