The Department of Piano and Voice at Rider University seeks an adjunct instructor of Acting for the Spring 2022 semester beginning January 24, 2022. This position is to teach Opera Workshop and The Singing Actor (graduate course).
The successful candidate's primary responsibilities will include teaching core courses devoted to the preparation, exploration, and performance of song and operatic repertoire at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Other teaching assignments might include special topics in voice performance, acting and stagecraft. Experience in staging full operas is also desired. It is expected that the candidate will be an excellent collaborator with a commitment to maintaining effective working relationships with faculty, staff and students. Several classes will be co-taught with the Music Director of Opera Theater.
Master's degree required. Significant professional experience, and teaching experience at the college level required. The applicant must have facility with Italian, German, and French languages and diction. The successful candidate will be an artist of the highest caliber with a vision for creative lyric theater. The candidate will also possess a broad knowledge of operatic literature (including new American works) as well as a practical understanding of repertoire suitable for young voices; demonstrate a passionate commitment to teaching; and demonstrate an ongoing record of creative/scholarly activities. Professional experience may be considered in place of an earned degree. Candidates with experience working and teaching in culturally diverse environments are strongly preferred.
