The Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University invites applications and nominations for a full-time faculty position in dance (Contemporary Ballet Embodied Practice) to begin in the fall semester 2022.
Responsibilities include teaching multiple levels of Contemporary Ballet forms, including Contemporary Partnering; an awareness of decolonial dialogues within ballet practices; and staging and/or choreographing Contemporary Ballet dance works. Additional responsibilities may include participation in recruitment efforts, auditions, juries, advising and other tasks important to the maintenance of the department.
Located in the heart of Baltimore's Mount Vernon Cultural District, the Peabody Institute was founded in 1857 as America's first academy of music. Today, through its degree-granting Conservatory and its community-based Preparatory music and dance school, Peabody trains musicians and dancers of every age and at every level. Each year Peabody stages more than 850 major public concerts and performances. Peabody is one of the nine divisions that comprise the Johns Hopkins University.
The ideal candidate should have national & international professional experience, strong familiarity teaching in a conservatory and/or BFA dance program and extensive creative and/or scholarly activity in the dance field. MFA/PhD preferred not required.
We encourage applications from candidates with knowledge of Somatic practices (Laban Movement Studies, Body Mind Centering, Functional AwarenessÂ®, Yoga, etc.) and experience with non-Western movement forms. We seek a candidate who will contribute to our growing department and augment its existing strengths in analyzing & teaching Dance from a critical perspective which includes race, gender, sexuality, science and social justice.
