The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Community and Economic Development Director. The Community and Economic Development Director reports to the City Manager and is also supported by an Assistant City Manager that directly supervises the Community Development Program Director. The Community and Economic Development Department promotes the City’s development policies and leverages resources in order to enhance economic opportunity. Through traditional and equity-based approaches, the department leads the business expansion, urban regeneration, small business development, cultural arts and music efforts for Asheville.
The department comprises the following areas/divisions: Community Development, Economic Development, Business Inclusion, Real Estate, Arts and Events.
Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Affairs, Planning, Economics, or a related field required; supplemented by ten years of progressively responsible experience in managing economic and community development programs, to include lead or supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. A valid North Carolina driver’s license (or ability to obtain) is required.
Salary range: $101,212.80 - $151,819.20 DOQ, plus a very competitive fringe benefits package.
